INTERVIEW WITH JEN
Let's just kick it off with a question everyone has been dying to know...
If
you could have lunch with one of your wallflowers who would you
choose?
Jen: "Oh,
fine, get me into trouble. But, okay, it would be Miss Gertrude
Cadwalader. She’s just such a no-nonsense type, and she doesn’t
mind that Harrison is a walking fashion disaster."
I would love to sit down with her too. I saw so much of myself in her, and so much I'd love to become. Definitely a lady I'd want to be my BFF!
You
base your books (currently) in high New York society, any particular
reason?
J: I
was intrigued with the New York Four-Hundred from the time I read a
book about Alva Vanderbilt. The Gilded Age is a fascinating time in
history, sadly neglected in my opinion until a few years ago, and
there are so many bizarre stories that happened during that time that
I have enough fodder for storylines to last me for years!
And boy do I look forward to all the bizarre stories you're going to tell!
If
you woke up tomorrow and you were in the Gilded Age, what’s the
first thing you would do?
J: I’d
go the Ladies’ Mile where all the famous department stores were
located. It would be fabulous to roam around in them, checking out
what was in style and how much things costs. Then I’d go to
Delmonico’s to eat, but not terrapin – eating turtle would freak
me out.
You're taking me with you right?! Girl's shopping spree!! Yeah it might be wise to skip on the turtle, I say we go with the good ole chicken!
Tea
or coffee? Iced or hot?
J: I
like coffee, hot, but only one cup in the morning. In all honesty, I
really just like creamer with a little coffee mixed in.
I'm an iced girl through an through. Though I do enjoy coffee with my creamer. 😉
If
you could write in another genre, which would it be?
J: I
love writing contemporary – rom com’s or mystery.
YES! Though I ADORE what you're doing now, I'd freak out to see your name on a romcom!!
What
are your favorite scenes to write?
J: I
like the outlandish. Those scenes are just a riot to write and they
almost write themselves.
Oh how you execute them flawlessly!! It's why you're a favorite. 💗
I
heard Temperance didn’t start out like she is in the book. What was
she like?
J: She
was really timid, demure, nervous – totally unlike any heroine I’d
written before. However, she didn’t want to stay that way, so in
book two, “Out of the Ordinary,” she started coming out of her
shell - whether I wanted her to or not.
Gotta love the characters with minds of their own! Unpredictable is exciting...at least where fiction is concerned.
Can
you tell us anything about what’s coming down the pipeline from Jen
Turano?
J: A
new series, “The American Heiresses,” will begin releasing in
January 2019 with “Flights of Fancy.” I’ve just recently turned
in book two of that series, currently untitled. Then, I’ll be in a
novella collection about the Harvey Girls. Haven’t written that one
just yet, but I’m hoping to get to that next week.
I can't even explain to you how READY I am for this series. I talk about it non stop. My mom is so ready for it come out just so I'll stop. But little does she know...I'm just getting started! 😏
Which
one of your characters is MOST like you? Least like you?
J: I
think most of my characters have a little bit of me in them. Most
like me would be - Permilia Griswold from “A Change of Fortune.”
Least like me – Miss Lucetta Plum from “Playing the Part.”
OOOO! Now I want an explanation on why Permilia is most like you. She was a fun one!!
Which
hero is MOST like your husband?
J: Harrison
Sinclair is most like Al. A bit clueless about women, charming, and
always the gentleman.
The greatest! Loved his character so much!
Could
you see your books turning into movies? If so which would you want
produced first?
J: While
it would be super cool to see my books turned into movies, because
they’re historical, that’ll probably never happen because of how
expensive it would be to produce. But, I’d like to see “After a
Fashion” on the big screen.
Ahh but a girl can dream! I would LOVE to see "After a Fashion"...all the hats and HER EYES! Yep that would be the motion picture of the year.
Now inquiring minds would like to know...where do you stand on Hallmark Christmas movies?
J: I’m torn – I mean, some of them are really cheesy, and I know I roll my eyes when I’m watching them, but…I watch at least five of them every year, so I guess that means I’m all for them??? Maybe???
I feel like it's mandatory to watch, and roll your eyes at, at least one Hallmark movie a year. I adore all the cheese, I still give my fair share of rolling my eyes and shaking my head. BUT I LOVE IT!
Jen thank you SO much for being with me today and answering my questions! It's been an absolute treat!
J: Thank
you so much for having me, Alysha! How fun!
All
the best,
~
Jen ~

I would rather be able to play an instrument!! thanks for the chance to win!! rchicaharris at yahoo com is my email.
ReplyDeletePlay an instrument. I have wanted to play piano since I was very young but being “dirt poor” and the 12th of 13 children I never had the opportunity to learn. Stella.potts77@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI have never been good at painting. I studied the piano 15 years and clarinet 4, but am not comfortable playing in front of someone. I love listening to talented musicians. I would say play the way I hear the music in my head! Thanx for the interview and giveaway!!!
ReplyDeletej 4 hibdon (@) yahoo (dot) com
DeleteAn instrument of course! I love my piano and my ukulele (my friend named her Hazel ) And I’d love to learn piccolo if only my mother weren’t so adamantly against anything so high pitched
ReplyDeletegot2brothers@gmail.com
Paint for sure! Thank you for this chance! cheriegravetteATsbcglobalDOTnet
ReplyDeleteI’d love to be able to paint!

ReplyDeleteWell, technically I already play the piano and I’m trying to learn the Mountain Dulcimer but I am a terrible artist. So I choose paint!
ReplyDeletetdmoore0612@gmail.com
DeleteOk, first, this was a delightful interview! Second, I would love to play an instrument because that would mean I could read music, which has always been such a mystery to me!It's like learning a new language.
ReplyDeleteI would love to be able to play an instrument. To be able to sit down with music anytime I wanted? Would be awesome!!
ReplyDeleteForgot my email. I got so carried away by thinking about playing an instrument! Sorry. mksmcpotter[at]msn[dot]com
DeleteI’d love to learn to paint. I can play several instruments but cannot paint :(
ReplyDeletemindyhoungATmsnDOTcom
Hm... tough question! Probably play an instrument, because with the amount of money I already spend on books, there’s no WAY I could afford paints and paintbrushes too! LOL.
ReplyDeleteEmail is jennavanmourik@gmail.com
I'd rather play an instrument!
ReplyDeleteMg.schmitt491@gmail.com
Without a doubt, I would love to be able to paint. It's something that I have always wanted to do.
ReplyDeletecindialtman@gmail.com
I would love to be able to play a whole lot better then I do now :D To really play, not just mess around. But to paint would be awesome as well! I think I'd have to go with instrument though.
ReplyDeletemeganpotter00 (at) gmail(dot) com
I already know how to play the piano, so I would love to be able to paint an instrument!! Thank you for this opportunity!! abigailharder14@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun interview! Good luck to everyone who enters. I love this book so much! This whole series is GREAT! I'm eagerly waiting for the next series.
ReplyDeleteSarah Anderson sweetgooberpeas@gmail.com Paint, I don't like to practice my instrument.
ReplyDeleteBrandish Vaughan i think playing the piano would be nice. That way if the Church pianist is not there i could be back up. vaughanx5@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI used to play the violin a very long time ago. I also kind of took piano lessons with the kids when they were little. I am not very good at painting. So maybe brush up on violin or try guitar or ukulele. My sisters both play instruments. paulams49ATsbcglobalDOTnet
ReplyDeleteMy sister plays the ukulele as well. She recently picked up a guitar and has already got a knack for it. Love the sound of string instruments!
DeleteI think paint. I appreciate a quiet hobby! :)
ReplyDeletedianemestrella at gmail dot com
Play an instrument. I love music! I play the mandolin and piano (to an extent) LOL. roemerfarm(at)frontiernet(dot)net
ReplyDeleteI would rather play an instrument, specifically the piano. I should have continued with piano lessons. My mom warned me I'd regret quitting. I love all of Jen's books. I haven't read Caught by Surprise yet so thanks for the chance to win it.
ReplyDeletepmkellogg56[at]gmail[dot]com
I already play two instruments so I would like to paint! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeletefaithdcreech at gmail dot com
Hmmm. I think I would like to be good at painting!
ReplyDeleteSparkleyfarmgirl@yahoo.com

ReplyDeletegreat interview!!
ReplyDeleteThank you!! <3
DeleteI would love to paint! Thanks for the opportunity!
ReplyDeletecook dot nicole at msn dot com
I really wish I could play a musical instrument. We now live in the Music Capital of the World in the heart of the Ozark Mountains and it seem everyone can play something with most playing several instruments. For some reason or other my brain can't quite get the knack of it and it's not from lack of trying. I've decided I have to be content to be an observer. But then again, what are performers without someone to listen to them perform. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the interview with Jen and this wonderful chance to win a copy of "Caught By Surprise"!
2clowns at arkansas dot net
This is how I feel when it comes to my sister. If she picks it up, she can play it. I on the other hand cannot...no matter how hard I try.
DeleteBut I agree, every artist (in whatever form) needs admirers.
I like doing both but if I had to choose I'd take playing. Love your characters, Jen.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry. Thought my name was on that. Mickeymcclure25@outlook.com
ReplyDeleteThis was a fun interview! It added to my desire to experience your wit through your writing! I admit that I will be a new fan, as I haven't read any of your other books. I always look forward to reading and sharing 'new to me' authors.
ReplyDeleteThank you for asking such a thought provoking question. It's a tough one for me. If I must choose, I believe I would love to paint.
Thanks for the chance to win the give away!
That’s a tough question, as I would love to be able to do both. My mother is a very talented artist and sadly none of us kids inherited her talent, and I have always wanted to be able to play the piano but never took enough time to learn.
ReplyDeletepattymh2000(at)yahoo(dot)com
Play an instrument. I play clarinet, but I've always wished I could play piano!
ReplyDeletedmandres5(at)gmail(dot)com
I think I'd love to do either really! I can't read music, so of course that would be nice to know how to do. Piano would come in handy! Then again, painting beautuful scenes or capturing people would be awesome as well.
ReplyDeleteLLWaltz [at] gmail [dot] com
Yup, this sounds like a fabulous book. Hahah. I can actually paint and play an instrument, but I do both not very well.
ReplyDeleteYou, my dear, are a jack of all hobbies aren't you. Is there anything you haven't tried??
DeletePaint! I’ve never read Jen Turano! Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteGrdlss (at) yahoo (dot) com
Paint. hannah_montana914@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI wish I could paint or draw. I've played a few instruments since I was young, but just enough to be annoying. ;) Thanks for doing a giveaway.
