Review: The Dating Charade

The Dating Charade

"Cassie Everson is an expert at escaping bad first dates. And, after years of meeting, greeting, and running from the men who try to woo her, Cassie is almost ready to retire her hopes for a husband—and children—altogether.
But fate has other plans, and Cassie’s online dating profile catches the eye of firefighter Jett Bentley. In Jett’s memory, Cassie Everson is the unreachable girl-of-legend from their high school days. Nervously, he messages her, setting off a chain of events that forces a reluctant Cassie back into the dating game.
No one is more surprised than Cassie when her first date with Jett is a knockout. But when they both go home and find three children dropped in their laps—each—they independently decide to do the right and mature thing: hide the kids from each other while sorting it all out. What could go wrong?"

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY PEOPLE! I hope you are enjoying the chocolate you got, whether from another human or yourself.
I couldn't think of a better book to review on this beautiful day! So grab your Russell Stover mix variety chocolates and get my thoughts on this adorable book.

I really enjoyed this book! The story was the perfect blend of heartfelt and heartbreak.
I can honestly say I don't know much about the adoption process, but I felt like the author did a great job with her research! I don't read many books with adoption as the main focus, probably because when people want to make a kid theirs in historical books they just kind of take them. 😅 #historicalreader
I really did enjoy this story, this twist to my normal reading plot. It was a bit of a step outside my normal box, and I'm glad I took the leap.

Melissa took the topics of adoption, infertility, and broken families and handled them with soft hands, and a softer heart. You can see her love pouring from the pages. That is what kept the book from being a straight romance you forget about in 6 months. It had hope, it had humor, it had love, it had heartbreak, it had brokenness, it had real life woven throughout each and every paged.

I enjoyed all of the characters! Each one made me smile in a different way. I really loved Cassie and Jett, they were so good together.

My biggest issue was the lack of backstory. I don't know if there were too many players on the board, but I felt like something was missing through the story and that was true drive from the characters. What drove them to be the way they were? What made them tick? There were a few things briefly touched on, but we never got the full story and I think that really would've helped elevate the storyline for me.

It was a faced paced book, and a quick read for me. Perfect thing to grab on a free weekend and take on a car ride, or even just curl up in bed with. I loved the "Brady Bunch meets Yours, Mine and Ours" vibe!
Overall, I'm glad I stepped outside my normal reading box and gave this book a read. It was super cute, and I'm looking forward to Melissa's next book!
